Awl - bone and metal

The awl is a pointed instrument used to poke holes in wood or leather. This one was constructed of a carved bone handle and metal point. This made stitching easier through certain materials easier.

The handle was most likely carved of deer antler or bone and the sharpened metal point was placed inside.
