Beaded Bag

This bag was collected in 1931. It is 13 cm wide and 19 cm long. The material that the glass beads are on is maroon velvet. The bag is fringed all around with twisted string. Both sides of the bag are beaded with a swirly design in groups of four which may indicate 4 directions. It is not a traditional Potawatomi design, and they didn’t use buckskin so it could have been an evening bag of some sort. It was likely to be influenced by contemporary culture.
